Just 7km from the village of Solitaire, award-winning Solitaire Mountain Lodge is a great location from which to base your day trips and excursions to the famous Dunes of Sossusvlei, Sesriem Canyon, the Naukluft Mountains and Spreetshoogte Pass.
The original farmhouse, at the base of the Rand Mountains, was one of the first in this remote area, and has been lovingly restored. Over time more rooms were added to accommodate demand, and currently 10 spacious air-conditioned rooms feature en-suite bathrooms and private outdoor seating areas with desert or garden views.
With a maximum capacity of just 35 guests, Solitaire Mountain Lodge offers a relaxing nature experience in this private wilderness oasis.
Lush desert gardens, filled with resident birds and many plant species endemic to Namibia, surround our open-air thatch restaurant. Enjoy freshly prepared cuisine and a hand-picked selection of South African wines while gazing at the Namib’s spectacular night sky from the outdoor terrace.
Part of the 70,000 acre Solitaire Land Trust, dedicated to preserving Namib grassland habitat and its resident wild animals, the Solitaire veld is rich in free-roaming wildlife including oryx, giraffe, mountain zebra, springbok, kudu, cheetah, leopard, brown and spotted hyena, bat-eared fox, aardwolf, and much more. Many may be spotted while out on an excursion or self-guided hike.
Activities include swimming, hiking, fat tire bike rental and scenic sundowner drives. Visits to the cheetah sanctuary are reservation-only.
There is a free shuttle for fly-in guests landing at the Solitaire air strip.
The distance from Solitaire to Sesriem is approximately 90km or 1 ½ hours’ drive.
