Situated in the peaceful solitude of an idyllic valley, in the heart of the desert, Barkhan Dune Retreat is the ideal place for travelers who seek tranquility and intimacy. Nestled in a Barkhan dune, the Retreat makes it possible for its occupants to live in harmony with nature, at the same time offering them comfort, luxury, adventure and relaxation.

We offer a variety of accommodation, including 10 rooms, of which 7 Dune Chalets are located about 20–50 meters from the main building. Our self-catering options include a two-bedroom house (Okanti) sleeping 5, situated 800 meters to the north of the main building, and a secluded self-catering unit (KuanguKuangu) sleeping 2, ideal for honeymooners, located 1 kilometre to the northwest. Additionally, nestled around a large boulder, our Rustic Cabin, sleeping 2, provides a serene and intimate self-catering experience in the heart of the desert.

For avid campers, we’ve got you covered! The Farmhouse Campsite, located at the foot of the Spreetshoogte Pass, opened in September 2023 and is just a 15km drive from Barkhan Dune Retreat. The Spreetshoogte Campsite on the Mountain, a hidden gem perched atop the stunning Spreetshoogte Pass, is still under construction but promises to be a campsite that will take your breath away. Plus, Barkhan also features a runway for fly-ins, making it even easier to reach your adventure..

Enjoy the amazing colours of sunrise over the Rant Mountains from the leisure of your own bed and when the sun sets in the west, join us for a Sundowner or listen to the barking Gecko from the comfort of your verandah.

Our Rooi Dak Padstal is situated only 20km down from the breathtaking Spreetshoogte Pass. Stop by the Padstal on your way to Sesriem or Sossusvlei for a drink, a snack, or a hearty meal on the veranda.
